Wadi rum is about 2 hrs away from Petra. Awesome rock and canyon formations that cannot be captured in photos. While the formations start about an hour away from Petra, the ones inside the protected area are quite large and unique
We took a 4- hour jeep tour booked from the hotel (25 JOD per person). A 2 to 3-hour tour might also be sufficient since we spent the last hour just waiting for sunset. We felt they could have covered more points, but the formations get repetitive beyond a point. Ensure you check in before the tour starts by contacting the hotel on starting times (ours was at 2 PM with sunset at 6 PM)

We stayed at Hasan Zawaideh Camp in a Martian tent (108 JOD per night for room, 213 JOD including dinner and jeep tour) with an intent to experience stars from our room. It was one of the cheapest options for Martian tent. The skies however were not spectacular, it felt like any small city with reasonable visibility of stars
The camp was clean with decent vegetarian options The overall package including food and jeep tour was 213 JOD for 3 people. Most camps quote a very low room price and charge add-ons like jeep tour at extensive rates, ending up at similar rates overall. In the evening, there was an equivalent of bonfire, some local dance and very good lighting of rocks bordering the camp
