We keep getting asked on how we manage food on travel. Traveling as vegetarians has become easier vs. the past. We list some tips on how me manage
Is it difficult to get food in other countries as vegetarians?
Not really if you are ok to adjust with options you get. Definitely yes, if you are picky about food
We would consider ourselves moderate on this scale. We are not vegan and ok with dairy
What we do for vegetarian food
- Carry ready to eat meal packets: Eze Eats has been our savior. You get lots of variety items these days. Despite, we have kind of gotten bored of it now after eating the same dishes so many times on recent journeys and keep trying to change what we can order online
- Shop in supermarkets for things like fruits, biscuits, snacks, water, yogurt
- Get some comfort food like beaten rice and pickle. You can always get yoghurt in supermarkets and tada! You can always relish curd rice
- Carry fruits and snacks to keep you going through the day, even if a meal gets late
- Order on apps like Uber Eats, Grab- We managed decently priced Indian food in most places in Indonesia
- Look for Indian restaurants for a change to go out and dine- We sometimes do end up eating in restaurants like what we did in Thailand. You need time and patience if travelling on public transport
- Check out Happy cow to find local places with vegetarian food. Many countries have been witnessing the vegan wave. Some traditional dishes and deserts in many countries are vegetarian (like Koshari in Egypt). You just need to research a bit to be sure
- Join group tours like ones from Veena World and Kesari. They try to maximize places where you can get Indian food
