Almost a year round destination, with May- September having pleasant climate

Schengen visa is valid. There might be stamping on passport at borders when you travel by trains

Getting In and around

Budapest is the capital and hub for trains and flights. Cities are well connected through trains within the country. You can use public transport and walk within cities

Check the exact train station name- there are multiple stations like Keleti, Kelenfold with trains arriving at different times in each station. We had an instance of missing train since we mis-read the station

You can take one of the free walking tours that work on tips only mode

Currency- Hungarian Forint

Euro might be accepted in large hotels and tourist spots, but better to have small change in local currency

Places to see In Budapest

Budapest lies on the banks of river Danube with Buda and Pest on each side. It is a lively city with much lower costs compared to Western Europe

  • Flights: $900
  • Accommodation: Hostels cost $15-20 per night and mid-range can be around $50. We took night trains and saved up on accommodation
  • Travelling around: Budget $20-30 per day for public transport
  • Food: $10-25 for simple takeaways
