Plateau of flowers

Flowers at Kaas plateau bloom every August- mid October with small wild flowers creating a carpet. It is a UNESCO Biodiveristy World Heritage Site. Kaas, close to Satara is 6 hrs, 280 km away from Mumbai
You can go on weekend tours organized by local companies like Treks and trails, Mischief treks, Adventure geek, Trikon
You spend Friday night and Saturday night on vehicle, with Saturday full day at the plateau during day time. Tours stop at a restaurant for breakfast and freshening up. Carry lots of water- you might not get clean places to brush teeth, freshen up and have breakfast

There is a cap of 3000 visitors per day and permit requirement to visit. Permits are issued in 3 hour slots, so better to book slightly in advance

The plateau has 850+ species of flowers. They are tiny, so you will need help of a guide to identify them. Our guide showed us 20-30 varieties

One flower stood out- the Kumudini lilies towards the end on the lake. These flowers were my favorite!

Sajjan Gad, Ajinkya Tara forts are nearby if you want to club visits around this area
Most tours cost INR 2.5-3k including transport from Mumbai and meals
