Alexandria is 3 hours away from Cairo. We went on a day tour from Emo tours. Prominent places to visit in Alexandria include Catacombs, Roman Threatre, Library, Citadel of Qaitbay, mosques and promenade
- Catacombs: The catacombs were underground with a spiral staircase around a well. The rooms below had provision to store hundreds of mortal remains of humans and animals in historic times

- Library: A modern one replacing the ancient popular library, with a unique architecture visible miles away

- Roman Theatre: We found this like any other Roman theatre. Nothing spectacular

- Citadel of Qaitbay: A refreshing place along the sea. It is a historic fortress to keep an eye on intruders coming from the sea

- El Mursi Abu Elabas mosque: Good architecture, gives you a sense of typical Egyptian mosque

.

A visit to Alexandria early in the morning or evening can help you witness hundreds of sea birds going out and coming back home which was spectacular (although I have no good photos since they were too tiny)
